Affiliated with the South China University of Technology, Prof Ning Chengyun is the Vice Director of the National Research Centre for Human Tissue Restoration and Function Reconstruction and the Guangdong Laboratory of Biomedical Engineering. He is also the Vice Chairman of the Medical Metal Branch of the Chinese Society for Biomaterials, a Council Member of the Chinese Society for Biomaterials, a Committee Member of the Surface Engineering Branch of the Chinese Society for Mechanical Engineering, and a Member of the Chinese Doctors' Association.

Prof Ning has been deeply involved in research on orthopedic and dental biomaterials, surface modification of medical biomaterials, and the compatibility of biomaterials with cells, tissues, and blood. He has led and contributed to numerous flagship projects, including the 973 Plan, the 863 Program, National Key Projects, and some research-industry initiatives in Guangdong.

Prof Ning has published 93 SCI papers in prestigious journals such as Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Progress in Polymer Science, NPG Asia Materials, Materials Today, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, and Theranostics. He is also the author of the monograph Electro-active Biomaterials. Additionally, he holds 23 national patents and has been awarded two first prizes and three second prizes at the ministerial and provincial levels in China.
