Prof Xu Yong is a distinguished professor and vice dean at the School of Computer Science & Engineering, SCUT. He also serves as the director of the Guangdong Big Data Analysis & Processing Engineering Technology Research Center. A senior member of both IEEE and ACM, he is the vice-chairman of the IEEE Guangzhou branch. His research areas include big data, computer vision, and pattern recognition. He has spearheaded over 32 national and provincial research projects, including those funded by the Natural Science Foundation of China, the National 973 Plan, and the 863 Plan.
Prof Xu has published 96 papers, with 65 indexed by SCI, EI, and ISTP. He has filed 12 patents, secured 14 software copyrights, and completed 4 successful patent transfers. He has been awarded the second prize for Science and Technology Progress in Guangdong Province and the first prize for Science and Technology from the Computer Academy of Guangdong.
