This is a technology of a compact and programmable platform dedicated for equipping smart environment with a contact-free and pervasive Radio-Frequency (RF) sensing capability. It is the first standalone edge product for pervasive sensing purpose by leveraging commercial-grade components such as ultra-wideband (UWB) radio, as well as customized extensions including large-scale MIMO (multiple-input and multiple-output) antenna arrays, FPGA-based backend computing module, and deep learning data analytics tailored to individual applications. The developed platform will also be open for both academia and industry for development of various applications.

Potential Applications

The technology can be used for smart home, such as health monitoring. Health monitoring applications include User Behavior Recognition (UBR) and Vital Sign Monitoring (VSM).

In addition, the technology also has potential to be applied for autonomous vehicles, service robots and other RF sensing applications.

Value Proposition

Compared to other competitor technologies, the developed open platform has the advantages of being versatile in conducting multiple sensing tasks including detecting continuous movement and micro-movement, in particular, human vital signs monitoring, while being robust to ambient interference with very low false alarm rate. Most importantly, the developed platform is open and extensible in supporting ubiquitous edge computing, with tremendous potential for the future, enabling the development of more applications on this platform. This is something that other competitors cannot achieve.
